May 17 - May 31 2008
Opening Reception: Saturday May 17 from 6 to 10 pm
The public exhibition PLUGGED IN will highlight new media works being created by artists throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond including sound, performance, digital and video art and interactive works. This exhibition will showcase the highly provocative and pioneering artists whom reside within the county with a focus on the interaction of their works with the residents and visitors to Hudson’s main thoroughfare: Warren Street
There is a fundamental revolution happening in the way that separate media are being combined. People are getting information, education, entertainment and communications all being thrown together in one big soup. It provides us with all sorts of possibilities as artists and as individuals. By creating interactive exhibits on Warren Street we can have events and experiences that would respond to the visitor so it would be a truly participatory process.
“I believe the marriage of technology and new medias with the historically rich spaces in and along Warren Street will provide a challenging environment in which people can have adventures. Visitors can make their own journeys and their own decisions. Artists will not just be providing a particular piece of work to be heard, seen and enjoyed in one way, but supply a collage of materials for people to play with, explore and create something for themselves,” states exhibition curator, Melissa Stafford.
Participating artists include: Greg Lock (Gallatin, NY), Mark Gregory (Albany, NY), Giorgio Handman (Hudson, NY), Kathe Izzo (Hudson, NY), Ingrid Ludt (Albany, NY), Jesse Matulis (Cohoes, NY), Josh Pelletier (Hudson, NY), Jillian McDonald (New York, NY), Michael Oatman (Troy, NY), Fernando Orellana (Troy, NY), Jonathan Osofsky + Jasdeep Gosal (Hudson, NY), Christine Sciulli (New York, NY), Bart Woodstrup (Troy, NY) + Chip Fasciana (Albany, NY), Bryan Zanisnik (New York, NY).
PLUGGED IN will be exhibited in and along the mile-long Warren Street, the main business district, in Hudson, New York. From May 17 through May 31, artists will utilize everything from storefront windows to the sides of buildings, to the street itself to exhibit their site specific work. Over the course of the past year we have been working with each artist to find a space which will be both engaging and challenging for their work.
Plugged In is sponsored by the Columbia County Council on the Arts and is made possibly with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Electronic Media and Film Program.
